Do you "zoom" your rod longer when fighting a big fish?

Nice~ do you find ur VL limited's length suitable for most of the fishing spot in hk?  I found if going to Tong Chung, 12 feet long rod is very good

My VL limited is 45-50 and on the long side!  

Better fit is 39~45 or 36~42.
