Do you "zoom" your rod longer when fighting a big fish?

I was using my rather soft and skinny 12 to 14 feet rod to fight this fish --->

yesterday, and the rod was slightly disadvantaged when it was 12 feet long, so I quickly "zoom" it to 14 feet and I had much better control on the fish.  Is it the right thing to do?  I was afraid i could have broken the rod by doing that...

btw, it just took me around 20 seconds to land this fish (maybe due to the shallow water, just around 15 feet)..maybe my rod is not that bad after all... ...

其實條魚唔大
大躉20尺水到,冇咩難度
所以好輕易攞到
但係ZOOM長左當然再容易D攞條魚
但係我個人認為晌中魚後先至ZOOM支竿
會非常容易傷OR炸竿
其實我都想晌呢方面請教其他師兄
聽吓各師兄既意見
請其他師兄指教

My humble opinion, zooming the rod in drift sink fishing is to let your rod tip closer to the sea surface avoiding the impact of the wind in order to catch the glimpse of bait taking!

Zooming will not hurt the rod!  But pull backward and not zoom forward.

The longer the rod the better to wear out a fighting fish with a better flex!  Cheers!

Never afraid to zoom your rod if it has this kind of function because it was design for it.  But please try to take care the angle of the rod when you zoom it out it should be between 30 to 45 degree.

前打竿的zoom係俾你打唔同高度的釣場，並不是像高橋般zoom竿頂魚

Extremely correct!!!  Maintain an angle of 30-45 provide the most power from the rod!

Nice~ do you find ur VL limited's length suitable for most of the fishing spot in hk?  I found if going to Tong Chung, 12 feet long rod is very good

So you diy your VL Limited's tip too?  Or it is original?

VL Limited tip is original and SIC guide and no DIY needed.  

I have done protection DIY only:-
*  I have just stick a slice of cork pad on the bottom cap as it is always got scratched!  (Post photo tonight)
*  Add a lamination tape to the handle
*  Tube from Finger of Industrial Rubber Glove for extra comfort and grib!!
