Let look at this way, simply when I choose a rod I will focus 3 main parts of the rod vs it price.
1.) Rod blanks material & design
2.) Guide material & design
3.) Place of manufactory and hand made or machine made.
1.) Rod blanks material mainly have fiberglass, graphite, carbon fiber and Kevlar (bullet proof material). Most of the best rod are close to 100% graphite but normally mixture with fiberglass and carbon. The higher number of carbon contain, the rod will more lighter, more stiff (硬的;挺的), 彈性高 and more sensitive but easy to break because high in carbon the rod will more brittle (脆). As you also will see some brand are still making full glass model rod ( 100% fiberglass), the advantage is the rod more flexible, not easy to break but more heavy.
In rod blank design which is more complicate but basically for what I am understanding is rod made from a flat piece of graphite then roll to a cylinder shape. It construct different thickness layer of graphite and some big game rod also will have Kevlar layer to make it stronger.
Conclude Rod blanks material & design, good and expensive rod will build by multiple material with high carbon content. Also have special formula of multiple layer of graphite to construct the rod.
2.) Guide material & design, most of the good rod are equipped with Titanium sic guide which is more lighter, stronger than Stainless steel guide and also anti rush, For example good Egi rod usually equipped with Titanium LDB guide which mainly for PE for smoothness casting and reduce the chance of the PE which get rounded up with the guide.
3.) Rod made in Japan most have better quality also custom make rod also made by human hands. As you may have a question of why we cant buy some of the top Japan brand in Hong Kong and we have to order or bought from Japan? Because some of the top brand are "JDM" only which stand for Japan Domestic Market, that mean they not export to country outside of Japan.
