話說 flyfishing 港區狂熱份子 " aul 少"
2011 年 10 月第二次遠征加拿大英屬哥倫比亞省 Mission 河,
探訪 Kfd 同我老鄉啲三文,釣果喺點...... .....睇片 !!
I was using the Orvis Hydros #9 9' and Rio Main Stream #9 & Rio type 6 sinking tip. Thank god the rod is very light weight otherwiseI cannot cast continously.
We went the first spot in harrison lake and saw quite some troutsand salmons rising. Stillwater makes the fishes not very active. Around20 casting with no reaction, we check another spot in the Harrison river. Water was milky ohh I may say chocolate milk color. When the boat tight-up and fishing started again. Doug (the guide) gave me a pink streamer and told that I'll be very busy afterward. The first cast 5 degree to the up stream, mending and let the fly sink then drift to the bank down stream, striked and hooked. About 2-3 minutes big fight with him, the first male Pink in my life was landed. After photo, he was released. Doug told me I should cast as far as possible cuz the fresh salmon won't be staying too close to the bank.
Fishes along the bank which are quite exhausted. Less room for fighting. Basically every cast with strikes. Some of them were long distance released. Anyway, it's full of fun! Doug told me the sinking tip is critical. Once the sinking rate i.e. 3"/sec is not enough to let the fly close to the bottom, you'll never get a fish. If sinking too much in lower current , the fly or leader stuck in the pebbles. Thank god the depth of the river which perffectly fits type 6 tip I have.
In the morning I've got uncountable strikes and landed. Then we went further up stream to the river. Unfortunately the up stream were almost flooded not much places allow me to cast. Finally tight-up again. Since it's flooded, I need more distance to reach the fishes. Saw the really big boy Coho rising. Size in 15 pounds up but it's too far to cast. Lunch time! Have a break cuz I really got a sore arm. During the break I asked Doug why they like to eat the pink flies. He explained that the salmon will never feed after entering the river. Fishes are not feeding but they are attacking. The specific flies make the salmon angry and irritating. Bite is the only way fish can do. After lunch, we have only 2.5 hours remaining for fishing then go back to the spot of Pinks.
Within these 2.5 hours, I might get 100 strikes and 30 landed. Most of them are boys. The boys are humpback. 3pm will be the end of fishing, 2:30pm I got a big pull from the line and drag is on. I turned the drag to max and still a lot of backing running. Surprisingly the fish ran up stream with a lot of power. Estimated 30 meters backing already in the water. 5 minutes later the fish still in 250ft away from me. It's a huge one! Suddenly the tension released. Ohh SHIT the braided loop was broken the sinking tip and the fish has gone. Doug said it must be a big Coho with 20 pounds up. It's really powerful! I said bye to the big fish and the brillient salmon fishing trip.
My camera lady (my wife) also got a lot of strikes with her spinning rod of spoon casting. 3 was landed and released. She said: "fishing is full of fun". I'll teach her to cast a fly rod soon.
Wish you may enjoy.
Cheers,
Paul
