Actually the "hardness" of 博多灣 39/45 (138 gram) feel very much the same as the X 39/45 (170 gram).  However when I try to pull a heavy object using both rods, the X 39/45 is more solid...due mainly to the fact it is much heavier...but I guess the material of 博多灣 is superior la...

It is a trade-off between weight and power

I am looking forward to the MS....

Some more choices would be Daiwa's Black Jack Commander and Shimano's rods.  Unlike Kurodaikobo's rods, they come in different specification and have different hardness for your to choose.  So you would know what kind of rod you are buying base on the specification.

ZL is no longer in production, but if just looking at the info from Kurodaikobo's website, VL Limited is made from a better material...

ZL is surely very light though...40/45...only 125gram...

ZL and Bay Osaka is no longer in production but you might be able to find second hand in Japan Yahoo...

Out of the three, Bay Osaka should be the hardest

VL Limited is not very hard but its middle section has very good elasticity to fight fish...

But if you really want a very hard rod that can control a big fish asap, try Daiwa and Shimano's rods as they got H to HHH rated rods...

I think Kurodaikobo in recent years have concentrated on developing rods with good arch shape and overall balance...but not on the "hardness"....the newest rod BLACKY THE ATHLETE BAY should be the hardest among its whole line up (i.e. the ones still in prouduction) base on its weight to length ratio...
