Tackle
Talking about what you need for fishing, it's a rod and a reel. Here, we will explain with tackle.
Rod
Rod comes in various length and solidness. It depends on target fish or casting lures. When purchasing a rod, select in accordance with target fish and fishing points.
Reel
They are offered in small～medium ～large size.
Select the one that best suites your rod.
Line
Main line falls into 3 major types; PE line, nylon line and fluorocarobon line.
Nylon line....Soft, low memory and easy-to-use. As the line stretches, it is soft to fish and anglers. Inferior in sensitivity becase of the strech characteristics.
Flurocarbon line....Non-stretch and good sensitivity. Easy to sink rigs owing to the high specific gravity. Hard and inferior in handling. Low abrasion resistance.
PE line....PE line allows for thinner line because of the 3 times strength of nylon line, which enables longer casting distance. Non-stretch and more senstivity than fluorocarbon line. Non-stretch characteristics tend to cause a sudden line cut. Non-stretch and strong properties give more shock to fish and tackle. Difficult to handle for beginners as it easily tangles. Because of the buoyancy, rigs would not sink smoothly.
The prevailing trend is to use PE line for the main lin and fluorocarbon line for the shock leader.
Shock leader is as about 3 times strong as main line. By connecting the thick line to the top of line, it absorbs the shock from fish and prevents the line cut by sharp fish's teeth.
How to connect main line and shock leader.
Bimini twist
Fold the main line in two and twist 15-20 times.
As shown in the illustration, pass the line under your thigh along the dotted line.Carefully tighten the twist by pulling the both line ends in opposite directions.
Spread the line ends to tighten the twist by about 80%.
Fold back the right tag over the twist.
Spread the line legs (llustration 2) so that the tag end will wrap back to the beginning of the twists. When wrapped, tie a half hitch either on the right or the left side of the doubled line for tentative tying.
As shown in the illustration, wrap 3-5 times and tie down.
Cut the line end to finish.
Albright knot
Form a loop with the leader line and pass the main line (PE) through the loop.Hold the crossing of the lines between thumb and forefinger of left hand.
Leave the tag end of the passed main line about 30cm and wrap about 7-20 times closely toward the end of the loop. The point is to strain the main line.
When wrapped, pass the tag end of the main line through the loop.
First pull the main line firmly.
Then tighten both the main line and leader line firmly. Trim the excess ends.
For secure knot, tighten the lines including the line ends evenly and firmly.
New SF knot (Connection without a double line)
Wrap the PE line around the leader line about 15 times.
Pull the wrap firmly. Change of the color in the wrap is the indication of full tightening.
Make a uni knot with the leader line. Slide the wrap to the knot.
Hold the leader line to be cut in your mouth. Pull the PE main line and the leader line by winding them around your hands. Tighten the knot and trim the excess line end. ※Simple, quick and strong.
Leave the tag end of the leader line about 60cm beforehand. After knotting in step 4,wrap the leader line around the PE main and branch lines.
With the remaining leader line, wrap toward the opposite direction. For easy wrapping, wind the end of the leader line around your right leg to fix the line and keep the tention taut.
Wrap the leader line for about 3cm. Then wrap the PE branch line around both the leaderand the PE main line for about 1cm.
SF knot (Joining a main (PE) line and a leader line)
Wrap a PE line around a leader line about 15 times.
Pull the wrapped portion firmly.
Make a uni knot with the leader line. Slide the wrapped portion to the knot.
Hold the leader line to be cut in your mouth. Pull the PE main line and the leader line by winding them around your hands.Tighten the knot and trim the short end.
※Simple, quick and strong.
FG knot (connection without a double line)
Wrap a PE line around a leader line about 15 times.
Pull the wrap firmly.
Slowly tighten the leader and the main line after tying a half-hitch.
When tightened, continue wrapping the PE branch line around both the PE main line and the leader line by half hitch. Wrap about 10 times.
Trim the excess line ends.
*Effective for casting, etc. as the joint is virtually knotless.

Lure
Use different types of lures by target fish or fishing points. And try various colors depending on the water color or the weather.
Explanation on lure will be shown on the next page.
Tie a lure to the line
Uni Knot
Pass a line through the ring of a lure. Form a loop by folding back the line.
Pass the line end through the loop and wrap around the main line 4-5 times.
Pull the line end slowly to tighten lightly. Pull the main line to tighten the knot.
Clinch Knot
Pass a line through the ring of a lure.
Fold back the line end.
Wrap the line end 4-5 times around the main line.
Pass the end through the loop beside the ring and pass the end back through the final large loop.
Pull the main line to tighten while keeping the line end from coming loose from the loop.
Loop Knot (Free knot)
Tie a overknot with the tag end left by approx. 30cm.
Pass the tag end through an eye or a ring and insert into the loop formed in step 1.
Pull the doubled lines in opposite directions with both hands to tighten lightly.
Pull the loop end and the ring to slide the knot until it reaches to the eye of the ring.
With the tag end, form an another loop in the main line.
Pass the tag end through the loop twice to tie a uni knot.
The preferable tying position is about 10-20mm from the ring.
First pull the tag end and then tighten the main line.
Complete if the loop is formed in a way that the knot of step 3 is out of touch with the ring and is next to the knot of step 6.
Types of lures
Here, we will give an explanation on types of lures.
Minnow
As the image of Minnow= fingerling, it performs a natural repeated action. Therefore most minnow type lures faithfully reproduce the shapes and the colors of fish.
The basic lure for both fresh water & salt water. Effective when fish isgreedy.
They come in shallow type for shallow range, deep type for deep range, floatingtype and sinking type.
Top water
Lure that attracts on the surface. It reproduces the panic action of fingerling on the run. Effective when fish is conscious about the surface. They come in the quiet pencil type and the popper type that splashes loudly on the surface.
Vibration
It generates high undulation by the wiggling vibration to draw fish even in cold waters or murky waters.
As it basically sinks, it can cover from the surface to the wider area of thebottom by sinking.
Metal jig
Lead lure. As it sinks while flutters and flashes, it can target all range.
Versatile for casting from shore to jigging in the offshore.

The lure colors can be separated into two large patterns. One is the natural color pattern imitating bait fish.The other is the appealing color pattern that stands out in the waters.
The natural colors include black, blue, green, brown for the back..
The appealing colors are chartreuse and orange, etc.
The natural colors stimulate fish's appetite while the appealing colors draw fish's curiosity.
The effective color for inactive fish on a full stomach is the appealing color instead of the natural color to draw their attention.

Practical fishing
Minnow
Many fingerling dwell in the stagnation of rock shadow where tide flows and rocks are underwater.
Migratory big fish come to the point to attack those small fish.
If the point is shallow with the rocks above the water level, cast a minnow withoutquestion.
Try the fast retrieve to see the response. A long castable lure is recommendableto search in broad areas.
Top water
When fingerling are chased after by big fish on the surface, choose a surface action lure like a popper.
Then move your rod with the intention to make the lure splash.
Vibration
Vibration is recommendable as a search lure in the deepwater where the point is hard to find as it works only by simple reeling.
Vibration is designed to sink and can cover all range from the surface to thebottom.
Metal jig
If you want to cast into even deeper range or further in the distance, that the when a metal jig produces an effect.
Small metal jig is long castable and fully covers the deep range.
Best for targeting fish in the middle range to the bottom.
When using the jig. you need to lift up & down your rod to give motions tothe jig. |
